Circus Theatre
Circus theatres?
Where would circus members live not in the contemporary world but before? Can a circus theatre be a permanet place where a certain circus’s member do their events, i asked this because most circus entertainers move around from place to place. When was the idea of a ‘circus’ first introduced and by whom? What forms of violence did people and animals get in a circus? How were these stopped if stopped? Where did the circus entertainers sleep, a shack or sumting?
Thanks for answering!
Barnum had the American Dime Museum in New York City, and it was kind of a “permanent” circus. If you have an area with a lot of tourism, you can have a permanent location for a circus. Cirque du Soleil has permanent locations in Las Vegas. If the area doesn’t have a lot of tourism, locals will quickly tire of the same acts over and over.
When traveling, circus performers and workers often live in a caravan of RVs, smaller circuses have been know to have their performers live in vans, or even sleep in the performance tent. Sometimes they will make enough money to rent a cheap hotel room, but not often.
Eating depends. If they have a kitchen facility in the RV, many will cook the same as people in homes will. Others live off of fast food and convenience store burritoes, and some larger circuses have a cook shack that travels with them.
I hope this answers a bit of your question.
